chriscuits: a food blog

restaurant week - part one - maze by gordon ramsay

On November 4, 2009, I was a very happy kid. Some of my favorite people at NYU threw me a surprise birthday party, and we shared an incredibly rich chocolate cake, a carton of milk, and many laughs until 3am. I got back to my apartment at around 4am, and I found a cookbook by my favorite chef, Gordon Ramsay, waiting for me on my pillow - an amazing gift from my brother.

I’ve admired Gordon Ramsay for a long time. He has insanely high standards and a passion for food that is second to none.

Maze by Gordon Ramsay at the London was an option for Restaurant Week. After watching every available episode of Hells Kitchen, The F Word, Kitchen Nightmares, Cookalong Live, Boiling Point, and, as of today, Master Chef, I have been dying to try his food.

I was not disappointed.

Executive Chef: Markus Glocker

A luxurious ambience

Fingerling potatoes with leeks, elephant garlic, a perfectly poached quail egg, and prosciutto.

Roasted chicken breast, spring morels, pickled ramps, fresh peas, and thyme jus

Dry aged strip loin, sunchoke puree, pommes anna, roasted Portobello

Vanilla custard with tangerine sorbet, segments, and gelee.

Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and walnut praline ice cream

After eating at Maze, I was inspired to open up that cookbook again and attempt some of the recipes. If I am ever able to execute the recipes inside with the precision that I witnessed at this restaurant, you will  be the first to know about it.

Thanks again to Eric for taking all the pretty photos, editing all of my blog posts, and for joining me on my food adventures in the past few weeks.
